Secondary Mathematics Department Head Training
The Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Support (OCISS), Instructional Services Branch (ISB), is conducting the 2008 Secondary Mathematics Leadership Training Session on Thursday, December 11, 2008, from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This session will focus upon the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards (HCPS) III for mathematics, the American Diploma Project (ADP) standards and end-of-course exams for Algebra I and Algebra II. Principals are asked to send one representative (department chairpersons, curriculum coordinators or teachers who have experience teaching mathematics [particularly middle-grades mathematics, Algebra I, or Algebra II]) from their school who will be an active participant at the training session. In addition, Complex Area Superintendents may send one district or complex support personnel to attend the conference. Registration form deadline has been extended!! Registration forms must be received by Friday, December 5, 2008. A confirmation memo will be sent via Lotus Notes upon receipt of the registration form.

English and Mathematics Content Panel - Statewide Professional Development Initiative
The Hawaii Department of Education (DOE) is initiating a statewide professional development plan in which content panels comprised of teachers and content specialists will assist the state in determining the professional development needs of teachers in an effort to create a statewide system of support. DOE is seeking highly qualified and motivated teachers who will be committed to making a valuable contribution to this process. Mathematics and Science Partnership Program
The Hawaii Department of Education recently posted two Requests for Proposals (RFP) for the Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP) competitive grant program. Refer to the following documents for more information about the MSP Program and the grant proposal process:

The intent of the MSP program is to encourage institutions of higher education and local elementary and secondary schools to participate in professional development activities that increase the subject matter knowledge and teaching skills of mathematics and/or science teachers. Professional development activities must be sustained, intensive, classroom focused, and aligned with state standards and mathematics and/or science curricula. These activities must result in demonstrable and measurable improvement in teacher content knowledge and student academic achievement in mathematics and/or science.
